‘Your Networth is your networth’

That is Ted’s career advice to those who would love to follow his career path.

For our first career inspiration blog we had an Interview with a Mombasa based Tech you tuber, podcast host and content creator, Ted Ndemo. He speaks to us about juggling careers and pursuing a field that is totally different from what he studied.

Ted is a former Strathmore University and Technical University of Mombasa student where he was pursuing Computer science and medical engineering respectively.

‘I have been juggling careers as I am still trying to find my identity as a person’ he says, in response to our question on what he is currently doing.

Ted has worked with a Mainstream Media company whose main role was branding, communication and Marketing which he says helped him understand how different brands in different sectors operate. This equipped him with the skills he needed to succeed in digital marketing.

He later moved to the tourism industry as a Social Media Manager. With hard work and dedication, Ted was promoted to be the director in the group of companies he managed.

Despite the glamour and benefits of that life and career path, he opted to quit his job earlier this year in pursuit of something that gives him purpose. ‘I am on a path to find my identity’ he says.

With no plan or back up plan, Ted did a SWOT Analysis of him and realized that he had good people skills and could easily resonate with them. Armed with this knowledge, he opted for an uncommon career path.

He is currently a proud content creator and Influencer who is earning more than triple what he earned in his former jobs. All this for doing basic and simple things that he enjoys as a person. He is planning to expand his wings and move to the next level of running his own Marketing Agency in the next few months. We wish him the best of luck in his endeavors.

Ted Ndemo started his channel as a hobby but it grew to a business when he realized people enjoyed watching the videos he created. So he kept being consistent, improving his skill, broadening his niche and putting out more content.

Getting to meet and interact with many different people is the highlight of Ted’s career, as well as the freedom to work on his own terms and set his own deadlines. He has since expanded his networks and has better understanding of the life circles. He has also grown mentally as a person and is more self-disciplined, a trait that develops when getting into a freelance field or social media field.

In response to our enquiry on what is required to succeed in the field he chose he said, ‘you need passion, the zeal, and your creative juices need to be ever flowing and evolving with current trends. You will also need editing skills which are self-taught on a need to know basis’

“Sell authenticity, that’s you. Don’t try to fit in a shoe that doesn’t fit you. Be you. Also, find what you are good at and let it put food on your table and have fun while you’re at it.”

Those are Ted’s parting shorts in response to what advice he would give to anyone who would be interested in getting  into the same career as him.
